Space Control Helps Self-Storage Owners Get Their Heads In The ‘Cloud’

In September, Space Control Systems, Inc. will introduce an entirely new software package developed specifically for operators of multiple storage locations. According to Ramona Taylor, president of Space Control, “We based our new program on cloud technology because it is the perfect solution for managing multiple locations from a headquarters office. This technology for web application development has improved remarkably over the last couple of years, so we felt the time was right to offer our users full advantage.”

According to Taylor, the newest Space Control technology was developed from a clean slate to address the growing concerns of owners who are challenged to manage more and more sites from a central location. With the consolidation and belt tightening that’s been going on everywhere for several years, managers are handling increasing responsibility without the benefit of extra help. Taylor’s solution is an interactive software program that breaks new ground.

Innovation times three
Taylor continued, “To achieve the greatest benefit from the cloud, we didn’t just put our site software on the web. We designed and built three separate applications to help solve problems for absentee owners.”

The first program Space Control developed is Onsite, a point-of-sale application that takes care of day-to-day business at the counter.

The second, the End-of-Day program, runs on Space Control’s cloud server and takes care of data backups, charges to the accounts, delinquency actions, automatic rent raises, and many other routine chores that managers tend to postpone.

The third application is Insight. According to Taylor, “It’s the star— the first software in our industry designed specifically for managing multiple storage locations. It’s interactive— it tells you vital metrics through a graphical display from Insight’s dashboard. If there are any trouble spots, they get red-flagged for immediate attention. Graphs and reports are just one click away and you can drill down for all the detail you need.”

New heights with the cloud
There are many advantages in using the cloud. The technology is relatively new to the average consumer, but is well proven by world-class companies such as Apple and Google. For one thing, data is safer. Even if the computer at the site were to be stolen, there is no data on it. Your vital information is always safe on secure servers that are offsite and reliable.

Owners can easily collaborate with site managers and regional managers on functions such as rent raises and auctions. Plus, critical management decision-making can be based on real-time information, not a report from last week.

It’s now much easier to manage numerous distant locations from a central office because of instant access to real-time information in a graphical display. If a red flag appears, it means a closer look is recommended. Additional benefits include seamless interfaces to online reservations and payments, call centers, kiosks, etc.
